The Rufta Child-Friendly Space aims to create a secure, entertaining, and curative environment for children in desperate and difficult situations in Mekelle, such as those orphaned and living on the streets. By bringing the pleasures of childhood, recuperating their talents, educating, and emotionally supporting them, the project seeks to transform their lives.
The initiative focuses on providing a safe and secure environment where children can feel protected. It offers a variety of entertainment and play activities, including indoor and outdoor games like chess, designed to help children relax and have fun. Additionally, the project emphasizes healing and support through age-appropriate mental health counseling and activities that heal trauma and build confidence.
Talent identification and development are key components, with opportunities for children to explore and practice their artistic talents, such as drawing, singing, and writing. They will interact with experts and artists who will guide and encourage them. Educational activities are also central, with access to child-appropriate movies, shows, and books that foster a love of learning and reading.
The planned activities for the initial phase include creating a welcoming environment where children can adapt to playing games and participating in various activities. Educational programs will provide access to movies, shows, and books. Artistic activities will allow children to draw, sing, write, and interact with mentors. Mental health support will involve developing and implementing age-appropriate counseling programs.
The Rufta Child-Friendly Space aims to help children overcome trauma, regain confidence, and discover and develop their talents. By establishing a nurturing environment, the project hopes to show these children that life holds more than the difficult situations they have faced and that there is hope and support available to help them enjoy being kids again.
